David Austin 'Gertrude Jekyll' is always one of the first English Roses to start flowering, its perfect scrolled buds open to large, rosette-shaped flowers of bright glowing pink. The strong, perfectly balanced Old Rose scent is often described as being the quintessential Old Rose fragrance. A vigorous rose; it will form a medium-sized, upright shrub. Named for the famous garden designer and author.
It has been voted England's Favourite Rose by BBC Gardener's World viewers and most recently The Nation's Favourite Rose in a poll conducted by the RHS in 212. Winner of the James Mason Award from the Royal National Rose Society in 2002.
For almost 60 years, David Austin roses have been growing roses on their family farm in Shropshire. Much of the process is still carried out by hand, with every David Austin rose having been hand-budded, a traditional and intricate skill, and grown in dedicated rose fields in England, keeping English roses, truly English.
All David Austin roses have a collective style with beautiful blooms and in most cases wonderful fragrance held on graceful attractive shrubs. A garden of these outstanding roses is hard to beat for sheer exuberance of flower and fragrance.
The plant's growth rate and size will vary depending on planting position & conditions.
